I'm going to teach you, How to add users in WordPress site. And the role of Administrator, Author, Editor, Contributor in our wordpress site.

let's imagine you've got a wordpress web site and you are the only person functioning on your web site. currently if you wish to let another person contribute to your web site you'll be able to make it by adding new users in WordPress site.

When you will add a new user, you'll be able to offer that user access to specific components of your web site. as an example, if you wish this person to write down blog posts for you, therefore you'll be able to use them access to simply blog posts on your web site. They won't be able to change any other things if you don't want them. To give this user access you can choose your own. So that they can access and control your entire site.

How to add users in WordPress site

At first, I am going to show how to add a new user in WordPress in few steps.

Step 1

To add a new user go to our WordPress dashboard and then go to Users.

Click Add new. Now here we have to enter the details of the new user.

So first let's enter a user name for this user and then enter their email and their name.

So once you have enter, just click show password. You are already given with an auto generated password for your user.
Now if you want to use your own password just remove that and enter your own. If you are using weak password make confirm use of weak password checkbox selected.

Once you have entered all the details, you need to select the role of this user so let's click here and you can see that WordPress has different roles so that you can keep for the new user.
Take a look at the Administrator role. You can select as you want. I will explain their role below that you can easily select that and after you have selected the role just copy this username and password into a notepad.

So let's open notepad and then copy the username and then the password. So once you have copied it. Just click Add user.
So, we have successfully added a new user and it is appearing in our dashboard.

How will this user access our website

Now lets open notepad. In order to let this user access our WordPress site you need to share this username and password with that user.
So if you share this username and password he can acce your site. Now the question is , how can he login to your site.

Open a new tab. Let's imagine, this is the users browser window first they need to enter your site's address and then type yoursite/wp-login If you changed your login URL, then use that. So my site is genius4-0.xyz. So I'm entering my Word press login URL. He has to do the same as you can log in to your dashboard but he needs to put that you username and password, you recently made it.

So now the user has to enter their username and which you have shared with them so let's open notepad and then copy the username and password. Then paste it into the login page.

Now if you click login, you will be logged in as Administrator.
So after logging in the user is able to access to your WordPress dashboard. As we added this users role as an administrator they will be able to access and control everything on your Word press site.
For example, from this account we can change the theme or install a new plugin or even add new users to the site now. If you don't want to give access with some restrictions. You can change their ability to access your site by changing their role in WordPress.

How we can change the role of a user

To change the rule let's go back to our main WordPress account which is here and here you can see the user which we added before.

Now let's click Edit and if you scroll down. You will notice that the role is set as Administrator.
Now change this role by clicking here and you'll see different roles available for the user.

EDITOR

Let's look at the editor role when you select the users role as editor user will be able to edit all of your posts and pages. But they won't have access to your core settings of your website as themes and plugins.

Now let's go back to our users account and now we have selected our users role as editor so if we click refresh you can see that most of the settings are hidden an he has the only access to posts and pages.
Now if you go inside pages or posts you will see that he is only able to edit or add new.

Author

Now lets go back to the dashboard again and let's try the next role, let's look at the author role now in WordPress whenever you publish a post it'll be linked to the user who published it.
So each post in WordPress will have a user link to it now the author role will allow the user to create their own posts and then edit those post. But they won't be able to edit any posts which are created by other users so let's try out the author role will select it and then scroll down and click update user.
And now we have selected the author role so let's refresh our users dashboard and you can see that the pages axis has been removed for this role now if we go to post

You can see there as these posts were created by a different user we can only view these posts and we cannot edit them but as an author we can click add new and we can write and publish our own posts now if I click publish.
That post will be live on your site. So that’s how this role does work.

So next let's see the contributor role we'll go back to our users page and let's select the role as

Contributor

If you select contributor the user can write . But it has to be approved by you before it can be published so let's try it out.
So as previous let's select contributor and then scroll down and click update user.
Okay so now we have selected the role as contributor so let's click refresh now if we go to post you can see that we cannot edit any posts and if we click add new. You will see that instead of the publish button we have submit for review.

You can see that the contributor does not have access to publishing anything but he can write his own post and he needs approval of yours.
So next let's attempt submitting a post for review we'll write a replacement post then click Submit for review currently if we go to our main account and click on post.
You can see that we have got the contributors post that is marked as pending currently to publish this post you have to go to edit and then publish.

And as soon as you click publish this post will show live in your wordpress site. So this is how the contributor role works.
The contributor can write new posts but it won't be published unless it's approved by an editor or an admin.
